I enjoy teaching young children and helping them grow in their musical knowledge. Developing a rapport with all my students is of utmost importance. Having taught for about 20-25 years I have discovered that children are capable of playing beyond the standard lesson books. Of course, theory is an integral part of learning to play the piano. It is important to me to keep students actively engaged by playing familiar songs that are written at the appropriate level. This enables them to "Play" as opposed to "Practice." The students seem to find this much more enjoyable. Music is a gift that is never outgrown and can be enjoyed for a lifetime.
I have a Bachelor of Music Education, applied piano from Greenville College, Illinois. I also took lessons at the Conservatory of Music in Chicago and studied at the University of Evansville, Indiana.
I have found that 30 minutes is not enough time for proper instruction on my part and feedback from students. So I prefer to teach 45 or 60 minute lessons. This gives a more relaxed atmosphere between the student and myself.
