As a teacher I strive to connect with the student's natural abilities and help them develop in the direction that feels comfortable for them. I like to make the lesson fun, light, and inspirational rather than feel like hard work.
For younger students I follow piano method books and supplement their music with popular chart songs, sheet music and improvisational techniques. Most younger students enjoy learning their favorite pop songs. I teach ear training through this music and encourage the children to listen and learn at home in this way.
For adult students I obviously let them decide what direction they want to go, whether it be learning to read music and following a more classical approach or learning how to improvise jazz and blues.

I have had a lifelong journey studying music. My mother had 30 students a week coming through the door and I was listening to scales from the womb. I studied classical Piano from the age of 5 until 20.
I also played trumpet for 11 years in marching bands, small jazz bands and touring university big bands.
At the age of 17 I learned classical and folk guitar and still pick up the guitar almost every day. It is a useful song writing instrument and easier to travel with.
From the age of 23 I lived and studied in Varanasi India. I studied North Indian Classical Music on the Tabla, a pair of hand drums ( bass and treble) that are intricately played to produce some of the worlds finest rhythms. It accompanies all lead instruments such as voice, sitar, sarod and sarangi.
I lived there for 5 years studying with a great master of Tabla, Sri Ishwarlal Mishra.
For the past decade I lived in southern Spain with my family, my wife and children. I had a recording studio and composed 8 albums, the last two released through NineWellsMusic in Asheville NC. For more info check out my website: www.kashikollective.com.
I live in Wilmington now and have a quiet home studio filled with instruments from around the world. I teach throughout the day and evening and enjoy helping students take steps to becoming better musicians.
I look forward to hearing from any prospective students.
I am also available to perform at any suitable event, weddings, receptions, restaurants, dinner parties, cocktail hours etc. I perform a wide range of styles, from blues, jazz, latin and cuban to softer new age and fusion music. I have a portable full size digital piano and sound equipment along with very affordable rates. Please get in touch for more info. Thanks!
