The story of NCMusicLessons.com
As a private instructor, I am well aware of the marketing challenges facing those in our profession. Historically, we have relied on word-of-mouth, referrals from current students, advertisements in schools and music stores, and our presence on any number of lists circulating in the community. Some of us may have websites, but for the majority of us, should a prospective student search online, they will not find us. What can we do to attract the large number of people searching for lessons online?
An answer came to me in June 2009. My wife was offered a free trial membership in an online directory of therapists. At the time, she was just starting her private practice, and since there was no obligation, we thought we would try it. Within weeks, she started getting multiple email contacts through the site and was able to find many new clients. Her name and profile were easy to find through online searches, and her listing proved to be very successful.
As I thought about my wife’s experience in securing clients through an online profile, I began to wonder why we couldn’t provide the same thing for our profession. I began consulting a good friend, Nate Massey, about the possibility of providing this service. As an accomplished, award-winning web programmer, he was confident we could provide such a service. We agreed to pursue the goal of providing an online marketplace for students and teachers to connect across North Carolina.
It is true that there are a number of lists and organizations that teachers can join, both online and offline, but most of these are not searchable online in ways that are convenient to the average prospective student. The NCMusicLessons advantage is:
- tremendous online visibility for each instructor;
- an attractive, ad-free website
- personal service at an affordable price; and
- extensive networking and marketing in both online and offline arenas.
NCMusicLessons.com is proud to host a wonderful community of private teachers and we invite you to try it for yourself.
Sincerely,
Scott Moore
